About Me

Carly Stephens, Founder/Maker/Photography:
Kentucky All-Natural- Natural Product Retail

Hi, my name is Carly Stephens and I specialize in growing and hand-making natural products. I love spending time with my family and going out to discover new places. I like to teach others about how simple it can be to live more natural lifestyle. My favorite activity is to learn new things, I do that by researching and experimenting with soapmaking, gardening, cooking, baking, housecleaning and more.
I have been involved in crafts since a young age. I loved making crafts and was always looking for something creative to do that I could benefit from. Some things I remember making were things like pottery, crocheting, embroidery, and jewelry. I’ve always loved photography also, capturing a moment in time.
I grew up and studied to be a nurse. I’ve taken care of many people over time, from the emergency room to the intensive care unit to long-term care facilities. Hygiene is something that has been very important to me since that time. I remember using chlorine bleach to clean, disinfect everything in my house, liquid detergents for dishes & laundry, commercial soap bars or liquid body wash for my face and body. I thought these products were essential to my lifestyle and never cared or even thought about the toxic ingredients in them.
Never in my life I imagined all those products mentioned to be replaced with something eco-friendly, or even further, making them at home. I moved home with my dad in 2013, and I had an allergic reaction to something that I had previously been able to use; I hadn’t changed anything, I just started breaking out every time I showered. I tried other products, same reaction, I eventually tried everything and nothing worked. I couldn’t use anything and my skin stayed broken out. I went to our family doctor after a year of trying new products and he recommended that I use water-only when I shower, no soaps or detergents.
That worked, but I didn’t feel clean. I sought out substitutions and ran across a recipe for a small batch of homemade soap, I figured it would be easier (& cheaper) to dive in and make my own batch instead of trying to find someone that makes it in our small town. The next day I went out and gathered up all of the supplies and got started. I molded a couple bars of Glycerin-SheaButter Bars to hold me over, the 4-6 weeks it takes homemade soap to cure. I noticed a difference immediately, my initial reaction was not pleasant, I honestly think I was a little creeped out that it was handmade. I still made it and used it, my face still broke out- just not as bad or as frequently.
Once my handmade soap cured and I was able to use it, I was amazed after the first time using it. The handmade soap did not cause any allergic reaction to my skin, at all! I was very happy and surprised. I compared the ingredients of my handmade soap to the commercial soap and the list was shorter and just by looking at the components, I knew handmade soap is way better! I then started integrating handmade soaps into my household and family- now my dad and aunt are both religious handmade soap users, nothing else!
I also read about living more simple by using handmade products with natural ingredients and being more conscious about what you put on your skin and in your body. I was changing my lifestyle product by product. It was a luxury to me, living that simple.
As soon as I saw the results from the first batch I made, I got curious. I wanted to read and learn more about soapmaking. My creative self instantly became obsessed with the idea of it, so I gave it a go. I experimented with a bunch of different soap formula and was left with soap bars all over my kitchen and dining area. It was fun and relaxing, trying out the many ways to make soap. My favorite method was the cold-process method.
When I realized that I had made more soap than I could use in a lifetime laying around, I started giving them away to local family & friends. After the feedback was so phenomenal, a friend suggested that I start selling them along with our produce on the farm, at local farmers markets, and even online. He explained, I could continue and expand my “natural lifestyle “ hobby and at the same time provide a natural, eco-friendly product to people who want to live with the luxury of simplicity.
In 2014, we added a herb and flower garden to our already flourishing produce garden, which now make-up GrowingDays Gardens. Along with fresh, homegrown produce, we grow herbs and flowers to dry and use as additives for our handmade soaps such as lavender, chamomile, calendula, etc. to ensure our customers receive products made with only the highest-quality, natural ingredients.
In August 2015, we became “Kentucky All-Natural”, as a family we decided to expand and open a small in-house shop on the farm (where I can create our products) and a Facebook Online Marketplace, where I advertise and place our items for sell. Soon enough, what was a hobby became a full-time job that I enjoy alot. We became more & more busy over time and friends started volunteering as they could. I appreciate them very much and just as this business is mine, it’s theirs too.
Shortly after, Spring 2016 I was searching for local events we could attend and purvey our handmade goods, the produce and food that we grow and bake, we quickly became members of McCreary Co. Farmers Market and started vending there a couple weekends a month. Selling; Southern Belle Skincare: Premium Artisan Bar Soap & Luxury Skincare Products all made from natural or organic ingredients, GrowingDays Gardens: Fresh and Preserved Homegrown Produce, Herbs and Fresh-Cut Flowers; Cook with Carly- Tasty Treats, Sweets & Such: preservatives (jams, jellies, marmalades) and baked goods created with locally grown/produced ingredients and received certification from the State of Kentucky as a Home-based Processor.

Growth is always a great thing, as a business and a family, we’re all growing together! My goal is to offer the best products to our consumers and my dream is to someday build a brick and mortar shop on our farm- FULL-size, with room to create and showcase our products!

Natural Toner & Moisturizer Benefits

Toners and Moisturizers

Citrus & Witch Hazel Oil Control Toner

Proper facial skin care requires regular cleansing and moisturizing. However, facial toners also play an important role in assuring you have a healthy and clean facial appearance. Whether you use a homemade toner such as rose water or lavender, or a brand-name toner sold in your local retailer’s skin-care aisle, skin toner should be incorporated into your daily skin-care regimen — applied with a cotton ball between cleansing and moisturizing.
pH Balance
Facial toners help to balance the pH, or potential hydrogen, level of your skin. pH levels are an indication of the acidity level of your skin and are measured on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being the most neutral level. Having a balanced pH level means your skin is less prone to oiliness and infection, creating a more vibrant and smoother appearance.
Detoxification
Many toxins that affect the health and appearance of your skin come from industrial-made chemicals. Facial toners work to remove environmental toxins such as smoke, smog and other chemical residues from your skin. This helps your skin to look brighter and healthier, and long-term benefits may include less acne, less severe acne scarring and fewer wrinkles.
Coconut Oil Moisturizers
Coconut oil makes a great skin moisturizer on its own, with a blend of other oils, or as a carrier for essential oils. Additionally, this can also be added to lotions and creams that need extra moisturizing properties. For the same reasons that coconut oil makes a great cleanser for all skin types, it also works as a moisturizer for any skin type. The key is to know how much your skin needs and how. Oily skin may need drier carrier oils such as argan or olive, while dry skin will probably drink coconut oil all up.
How to Use it to Moisturize your Skin:
Face: rub a small amount between fingers and pat on to freshly washed skin, adjusting amount used as needed. If you’ve used the coconut oil cleansing method and have plenty of oil left on your skin after washing, you can simply pat dry and skip the additional moisturizing step.
Body: emulsify oil between palms until warm and melted and apply to skin, or melt down and add to your favorite lotions and creams before applying.

Beauty Benefits of Oatmeal

Oatmeal Beauty Benefits

Clarifying Clay & Oat Masque
Oats have been used for skin-beautifying purposes for centuries; these miraculous little grains have the ability to soothe, calm and heal even the most irritated, inflamed skin. These days you’ll often find oatmeal, colloidal oats and Avena sativa listed in manufactured beauty products because of their anti-inflammatory and softening properties.
Milky Bath
There are so many benefits to soaking in an oat bath. People with sensitive, itchy skin, and those suffering from eczema will feel incredibly soothed after a 15-minute oat soak. Do your kids have chicken pox, poison ivy or insect bites? Let them splash around in a milky oatmeal bath for some much-needed relief. Sunburn, inflammation or abrasions getting you down? Again, jump into a soothing, tepid oatmeal bath to heal uncomfortable skin trauma.
Exfoliator
The grainy texture of oatmeal makes it a perfect, natural scrub–and it won’t harm the environment! The friction of the grains helps to boost circulation and remove dead skin cells, while the soothing qualities of the oats calm and soften skin.
How to Use Kentucky All-Natural Oat Scrubs: Mix well in jar. Scoop quarter size amount into palm. Get into the shower but keep the water turned off. Use it all over the body, scrubbing in circular motions and then rinse with water. To prevent your drain from clogging, you may wish to scoop out the used oats and discard them before rinsing.
Mask
Oatmeal can heal and soothe acne-prone skin because of its anti-inflammatory compounds, which bring down swelling and calm redness. Using the above face scrub, apply a layer over the face and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse and pat dry. Do this once a week and watch your skin clear up!
Body Wash Bag
If you want the cleansing and soothing benefits of oatmeal but don’t have time to lounge around in the bath, fill a scrub mitt or cheesecloth with a cup of oatmeal mix and wet it while in the shower. Squeeze the creamy goodness out of the mitt and rub onto your skin while showering. A pouch with a cup of oatmeal mix can be repeatedly squeezed onto the skin during your shower without losing its effectiveness. The soft, milky mixture will act as a gentle, hydrating cleanser in place of your regular soap or body wash and will add an invisible protective layer to your delicate skin. It smells good enough to eat, too!

About FIZZLES! Bath Bombs & Seeds

FIZZLES! Bath Bombs & Seeds

We take bath time seriously – seriously fun, that is. Settle in for a good soak with an original Kentucky All-Natural FIZZLE, exploding with essential oils, flower petals and tons of fizzy fun. Whether you’re after a relaxing, petal-laden floral soak or an invigorating multilayered explosion of color and scent, there’s a bath bomb perfect for every bathing experience.
Beneficial Ingredients In Kentucky All-Natural’s Bath Bomb Recipe
This bath bomb recipe combines all of the beneficial ingredients into one fizzy ball. I love to keep them in a glass mason jar next to my tub, so when I’m ready for a relaxing bath, all I need to do is throw one in.
So you may be wondering what’s in these bath bombs, the primary ingredients are baking soda, Epsom salts, citric acid, and coconut oil. Here’s each ingredient with it’s benefits:

Baking Soda– I love to add some baking soda to my bath because it aids in drawing out toxins from your body. Not only does it remove toxins, it also aids in alkalizing your body, helps treat common skin problems, hemorrhoids and yeast infections.
Epsom Salts– Many people are deficient in magnesium and Epsom salt baths are a great way to increase magnesium levels! When you bathe in Epsom salts, the magnesium and sulfates are absorbed in the skin, pulling out harmful toxins from your body! Some of the health benefits of magnesium include; fighting inflammation, increasing blood flow and improving oxygenation in your body. Just some of the conditions Epsom salt baths helps are; sprains and bruises, athlete’s foot, toenail fungus and gout.
Coconut Oil– There are so many benefits of coconut oil, that’s why I included it as an ingredient in my bath bomb recipe! You can get many health benefits by adding it to your bath. Not only does it help your body by improving your immune system, in the bath it helps moisturize and smooth your skin. It is also very soothing and healing for many skin conditions such as eczema and acne!
Citric Acid/ Cream of Tartar– For this bath bomb recipe I use citric acid, but I read that many use cream of tartar in place of this ingredient and it works just as well. Citric acid gives the bomb it’s fizzies and it is often used as a food additive. It is a natural acid that is found in fruits and vegetables such as lemons and it is what gives fruits or candies a sour taste.
Optional Ingredients:
Essential Oils– I added lavender oil to this bath bomb recipe because it is a soothing oil as it’s aroma helps combat stress and anxiety. Many people spray a mist of lavender oil on their pillows to help them fall asleep.

Food Coloring– Without any food coloring these bath bombs are a nice bright white color. You can add beet juice to the mixture or a few drops of natural food coloring to get any color you would like.

Benefits of Sugar Scrub

The Benefits of Homemade Sugar Scrub

Tea Tree & Lavender Botanical Spa Scrub
Homemade sugar scrub is the most natural way to soften, exfoliate and to freshen up the skin. Sugar is a natural sweetener that can also be used as a natural beauty regimen. Its fine texture gently exfoliates the skin without leaving harmful residue that can clog the pores. It has moisturizing properties that prevents the skin from drying. It is safe to use even on children’s sensitive skin and to soothe chapped lips. homemade sugar scrub hands
Why Use Homemade Sugar Scrubs?
Homemade sugar scrub can help reverse early signs of aging. Exposure from pollution, dirt, stress and sun’s ultra violet rays damage the skin cells. This leads to skin dullness and develops early signs of aging like fine lines and uneven skin tone. Homemade sugar scrub creates a gentle abrasion to even out the skin tone. It removes accumulated dead and damaged skin cells caused by sun exposure and pollution. The gentle massaging application of homemade sugar scrub on the skin enhances blood circulation. This increases collagen production and skin cell regeneration to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging.
Homemade sugar scrub prevents acne, whiteheads, blackheads, breakouts and other skin blemishes. Excess oil, dirt and dead skin cells clog the pores. This becomes a good feeding ground for bacteria which develops into acne, blackheads or whiteheads. Skin exfoliation using homemade sugar scrub removes dead skin cells, dirt and excess oil without drying the skin. It is tough on cleansing the skin while keeping its natural moisture. It increases the flow of oxygen and other nutrients on the skin to heal acne and other skin problems from the inside out. The moisturizing effect of homemade sugar scrub can decrease the symptoms of skin diseases like eczema and psoriasis.
Homemade sugar scrub softens even the toughest skin. As a homemade foot scrub it can help reduce problems with your feet, such as calloused and cracked heels. It is gentle yet abrasive enough to assist in removing callouses on the heels and soles of the feet. It moisturizes the heels to keep them soft and smooth. It also whitens dark knees and elbows. Regular exfoliation using homemade sugar scrub improves skin regeneration to whiten and soften knees and elbows.
Homemade sugar scrub or homemade facial scrubs help maintain younger looking skin. It tones and tightens the pores of the skin. It has glycolic acid that rejuvenates and keeps fresh looking skin. It has alpha hydroxy acids, an anti aging compound found in fruits and milk sugars. It maintains skin’s youthful beauty by balancing the skin’s natural oil and allowing new skin to develop. Thus, frequent massaging with homemade sugar scrub promotes continuous skin renewal that reveals younger and healthier skin.

The skin is the largest organ that covers the entire body. It protects the body from heat and cold. It helps the body to remove toxins and fats through perspiration. Keeping it healthy and glowing improves confidence and self- esteem. Give your skin the care it deserves. Indulge your skin with the rich benefits of homemade sugar scrub.

About Salt Scrubs

Sandalwood-Vanilla Salt Spa Soak
Sea salts and Epsom salts, or magnesium sulfate, both commonly used in the beauty industry, contain minerals that can help to enhance the skin. The magnesium in Epsom salts can reduce inflammation, while sulfates flush out toxins, according to the Epsom Salt Council. Sea salt, derived from evaporated seawater, is also chock full of minerals beneficial to the skin. When mixed with olive, almond or rose hip oil, salt can breathe new life into tired skin.
Exfoliation
Gently rubbing the skin in circular motions with a salt scrub removes dead skin cells in a process known as exfoliation. Dead skin cells harden with age. The longer they lie on the surface of the skin, the harder they get. This layer of skin will become thicker and thicker until it is finally removed. Layers of dead skin cells can make the skin look dry and flaky; exfoliation with a salt scrub reveals the moist, shiny skin hidden underneath.
Invigoration and Cleansing
The abrasive action associated with salt scrubs invigorates the skin and helps to improve circulation. Improved circulation gives skin a natural glow. Scrubbing with salt also helps to remove bacteria from the skin and unclog pores. Salt has antiseptic qualities, and when applied to the skin it may help kill bacteria and reduce inflammation along with any itching and pain associated with bacterial-related skin disease.
Regeneration
Exfoliating with a salt scrub not only removes dead skin cells and increases circulation, but it also encourages regeneration. Sloughing away dead skin cells actually promotes the growth of healthy new cells. This regeneration process tightens the skin, giving it a firmer and younger-looking appearance. Skin regeneration also reduces skin discoloration, evening out skin tone and improving texture.

Benefits of Coffee for Your Skin

MochaMint Botanical Foot & Leg Scrub both front
Did you know that coffee grounds have amazing benefits for you skin?
You wouldn’t want to rub this morning’s leftover dry coffee grounds on your skin (ouch!), but when you combine quality coffee grounds with other natural ingredients to create a coffee scrub, the benefits for your skin are immediately noticeable.
Coffee scrub has several benefits that include: exfoliating and anti-inflammatory properties, temporary reduction of cellulite, improved circulation, reduced eye puffiness, and smooth skin.
Coffee Scrub Is Soothing
Instead of using body scrubs with harsh chemicals, coffee scrubs like Kentucky All-Natural’s combine coffee grounds with salt, sugar, and oils that leave your skin nourished and moisturized rather than just cleansed.
In fact, coffee scrubs like Kentucky All-Natural that use all-natural ingredients can easily be used as a replacement for body scrubs and exfoliators that contain chemicals—who wants to rub chemicals on themselves when there is an all-natural alternative to achieve healthy, smooth skin!?
Exfoliating Properties
Coffee scrub usually has three main ingredients that, when combined, create the ultimate exfoliator: coffee grounds salt sugar
Kentucky All-Natural uses Himalayan rock salt as well as brown sugar because both of these ingredients contain natural minerals and acids that fight off nasty bacteria and are beneficial for your skin.
By applying to the skin in a gentle circular motion, coffee scrub exfoliates the skin, removing your dry, dead skin, to reveal new, healthy-looking skin underneath.
Caffeine Benefits For Skin
Aside from the amazing exfoliation that coffee scrub provides, it also has another secret weapon for your skin: caffeine.
Caffeine is a compound that is found abundantly in tea and coffee plants around the world. Technically a psychoactive drug, caffeine has become the world’s most popular stimulant because it works so effectively.
While we all know the benefits that caffeine has on the mind and body when we drink a cup of coffee, the lesser known benefits are the effects it has when we apply it to our skin.
Caffeine helps tighten the skin, which can help reduce cellulite. When applied under and around the eyes, it can minimize the appearance of puffy eyes because caffeine restricts blood vessels, which reduces swelling and inflammation. It can also help treat non-hereditary dark circles under the eyes.
Caffeine is also loaded with antioxidants, which help to fight premature skin aging like wrinkles, sun spots, and fine lines.
Not All Coffee Scrubs Are Created Equal
The caffeine content of the coffee scrub is also an important factor.
Some coffee scrubs will use brewed coffee grounds, which means much of the caffeine content is depleted when the grounds are re-purposed into a coffee scrub. Some scrubs also use Arabic coffee beans, which almost all coffee that you drink is made from.
So how is Kentucky All-Natural different?
At Kentucky All-Natural, we use high-quality, high-caffeine content coffee beans in our coffee scrub. Since caffeine is so beneficial when applied directly to the skin, we’ve opted to spend more on premium beans in our products so our customers get the best coffee scrub possible.
